Department of Neuromotor & Sensory Rehabilitation,
RECOUP
Introduction
This Department brings together Internationally recognized specialists
in Developmental Paediatrics, Paediatric Orthopaedics, and various
Rehabilitation modalities, that provide comprehensive and individualised
assessment, early diagnosis, appropriate treatment and follow-up
of children with Developmental and Neuromotor problems. We appreciate
that treatment of children with special needs should focus on
the whole child, rather than only one aspect of the individual.
This department is dedicated to helping every child with this
condition achieve his or her maximum physical, intellectual and
emotional development. Since its inception, the department has
evaluated and treated more than 5000 children, including several
from states as far as Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, and Delhi, and
various countries in Asia, Europe and North America. Many children
may require further interventions like Orthoses, Inhibitory Casts,
Botox injections or Surgery. Since April 2000, over 200 children
with Cerebral Palsy and other neoromotor disorders have undergone
single-sitting multi-level surgeries, with gratifying results.
Advantages of this Department
- This is perhaps the only centre in India where developmental
paediatricians (as opposed to physiotherapists) actively participate
in and supervise the assessment and therapy of children on a day-to-day
basis
- The multi-disciplinary approach is convenient and economical
for patients and carers, facilitates better communication, continuity
and unbiased decision making

history, perinatal complications)
- Developmental delay in 0-3 year age group
- Gait alterations (walking oddly) or deformities
