The need for RECOUP
- Unlike many rehabilitation centres that are run by therapists
or alternative medicine practitioners, RECOUP is led by a reputed
Medical Specialist in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. This ensures
an accurate diagnosis, assessment, a clear-cut treatment plan
and effective communication among the team members.
- RECOUP is the only medical centre in the world that integrates
diverse and proven treatment modalities like Physical Therapy,
Myotherapy, Manual Therapy, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Alexander
Technique, under a single roof. Well-known, highly
trained and qualified experts deliver these treatment modalities.
- RECOUP does not provide run-of-the-mill Physiotherapy, e.g.,
Traction, Short Wave Diathermy, Ultrasound, IFT or Isometric Exercises,
which only mask the symptoms temporarily, before the symptoms
move from one spot to the other. RECOUP is one of the rare medical
centres to offer specialised and skilled hands-on manual therapy
and myotherapy, based on a specific medical diagnosis (instead
of clients being labelled as having RSI, neck pain, back pain or spondylitis).
- A cook book approach does not work in the treatment of Neuromusculoskeletal
Disorders: each case is unique and requires individualised attention
to specific symptoms, the extent of structural involvement and
all the risk factors. Frequently, a combination of treatment modalities
is required, in a holistic environment.
Staff
- Dr. Deepak Sharan, Consultant
in Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation and Ergonomics, heads RECOUP.

Degree in Physiotherapy and have received further training in
RSI Therapy (from

based in Allentown,
USA and author of the famous book on RSI
"It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome"), Manual Therapy,
Ergonomics (University of Lulea, Sweden),
Myotherapy, Neurodevelopmental Therapy, Sensory Integration, Yoga
and Alexander Technique (from various visiting National and International
experts).

Academic
Programme for continuing professional development

Assessment
Dr. Sharan evaluates all patients before proposing an individualised
treatment plan. The assessment includes a comprehensive musculoskeletal/myofascial
examination with a focus on range of motion, trigger points, biomechanical
problems, and evidence of nerve or blood vessel entrapment, plus
any other pertinent tests according to the presenting symptoms.
Further assessments may include a workstation evaluation with
a focus on biomechanical and ergonomic issues, blood tests, nerve
conduction studies, x-rays, and MRI Scans.

SHARAN'S®
Protocol for RSI (Skilled Hands-on Approach for Release of myofascia,
Articular, Neural and Soft-tissue mobilisation)
-
Phase 1 - Severe discomfort
Ischaemic compression, Myofascial release, relaxation techniques/breathing
exercises, and physical modalities like IFT, US. Spray &
stretch and needling are sometimes needed.
-
Phase 2 - Moderate discomfort
Soft tissue, neurodynamic & articular mobilisation, self-stretching
exercises, Alexander technique and Yoga
-
Phase 3 - Mild discomfort
Further self-stretching exercises, progressive strengthening
exercises, postural retraining, EMG Biofeedback, body mechanics and ergonomics
training on a model computer workstation, ergonomic furniture
and accessory recommendation
- Phase 4 - Maintenance phase
Further strength training, aerobic conditioning, Yoga, Tai Chi
Our philosophy is that RSI is primarily
a structural problem that CAN be
completely treated, even in advanced stages. However,
successful treatment of RSI requires that individuals take
responsibility for making changes in their approach to work
and other activities, and comply with treatment. |
